Sensible Yoga Teacher Training (300 hour)

April 2023 - March 2024

NEW FUSION COURSE: Our 9th training is a fusion of 4 in person weekends, 8 online weekends & 10 online Friday evenings. The in person weekends will be held in the spectacular Cumbrian countryside at the oldest village hall in the UK, Lanercost Priory’s Dacre Hall, near Brampton.

Recognised by the Independent Yoga Network & Yoga Teachers Together.

Sensible Yoga is Somatic Yoga; an inclusive, accessible, therapeutic & trauma sensitive blend of yoga, feldenkrais, somatics & embodiment practices.

Following the success of our online teacher trainings during the pandemic, we realised that our sensible & somatic style of teaching yoga was ideally suited to online teaching. Indeed we discovered that there are some advantages to being online that go beyond the obvious reduction in travel time, carbon footprint and expense. Online is a great way to learn how to teach yoga, especially if you are teaching a somatic method that does not rely on adjustments, like Sensible Yoga. Being online allows trainees and students to go deeper into their own experience. Freed from the distractions of being able to see how others interpret somatic instructions being, online allows the individual to drop more deeply into their body and follow the sensations that they feel. Plus you don’t have to worry about childcare, pet care or covid.

Of course, in person contact with your fellow course members and course tutor is invaluable, so we would not like to lose the opportunity to meet in person. Therefore, we have decided to run a bespoke course that blends online and in person teaching to give you the best of both worlds.

Our online tuition will be developed and expanded upon during in person weekend retreats in the beatific and inspirational setting of Lanercost Priory’s 16th century Dacre Hall, the oldest ‘village hall’ in the UK.

Our method of teaching adapts so smoothly to being online that we've even been delivering CPD courses helping teachers who previously relied on adjusting students shift their delivery to suit online teaching. As we have been training teachers online since the first lockdown, and those teachers have now successfully completed in person externally verified teaching assessments, we also have proof that our way of training teachers online can smoothly shift to safe and effective in person teaching too.

“Love this <3 Debbie you are the reason why I teach the way I teach and I practice the way I practice. With compassion, curiosity and exploration <3 love you millions x” (CT)

ABOUT THE COURSE:

SENSIBLE YOGA FOR SENSITIVE INDIVIDUALS

Sensible (adj) “capable of sensation or feeling;" also "capable of being sensed or felt, perceptible to the senses," hence "easily understood; logical, reasonable,” (etymologyonline.com)

Feel Now Yoga provides a 300 hour Sensible Somatic Yoga Teacher Training that offers you an in-depth alternative to the basic 200 hour Yoga Teacher Trainings. Instead of a yoga posture course with separate add on philosophy & anatomy modules, we weave the theory & philosophy into our yoga practice to deliver a truly integrated course, that is deep without being academic; practical without just being exercise; & thorough without being too long.

Sensible Somatic Yoga Teacher Training invites each individual to listen to their own body & trust its inherent wisdom as they refine their personal practice & develop their own teaching style. To honour this, we provide you with the opportunity to deepen your own experience & understanding of how Yoga works, so that you can help others access its full potential.

Feel Now Yoga has trained over 80 qualified Sensible Yoga Teachers. They are teaching yoga in schools, universities, physiotherapist clinics, hospitals, prisons, as part of their psychology practice, in social prescribing schemes, leisure centres and yoga studios. Some are entirely online. Many deliver specialist classes in areas they chose to research on their training course.

Our 9th teacher training starts in April 2023. We have a maximum of 8 students per course so that we can ensure each student is supported throughout, and beyond. Although our course meetings finish in March and it is possible to complete the course in 12 months, we give you a further 3 months to complete your 3000 word research project, with as much guidance as you require, so even if you have been out of education for a while, our trainee centred approach will help you complete a valuable and useful project. Our aim is that by the end of your 300 hour, 15 month training you will be able to teach your own style of yoga from a confident place of embodied understanding.

ABOUT THE COURSE TUTORS:

Course Director, Debbie Farrar, is a lifelong yogin with over 40 years of dedicated personal yoga practice & research, 24 years yoga teaching, 8 years teaching secondary school science, and extensive professional experience of supporting the educational and yogic journey of people with a variety of different learning needs. So our course walks the lines between experience & education; science & art to bring you a balanced & somatic Sensible Yoga Teacher Training.

Occasionally assisting with the teaching on the course is Ross Dixon, Debbie's partner, apprentice and a Senior Feel Now Yoga teacher.

2019-2020 BLENDED ONLINE / IN PERSON COURSE:

Final assessment and project completed in Nov... last bits and bobs completed in Dec. SOOoooo I can now say after 16 months of continuous study ... I am a fully qualified Yoga Teacher! Thank you Debbie Farrar for your continuing support, teaching and all round general fabulousness during COVID times...always finding new and valid ways to continue our yoga journey.

I have loved every minute of the course and so glad I chose you as my teacher.. the best decision. I still feel a complete novice but a novice with the best grounding possible. My plan is to attend as many of your Friday night immersions..very exciting..so much still to learn and so you haven't got rid of me yet! (SW 3/1/21)

2018-2019 IN PERSON COURSE:

After attending my first weekend on the yoga teacher training with Debbie, I knew I had picked the right course for me.

The conversations from this first weekend were profound; we talked about yoga (obviously) but there was no much more to the discussions which touched upon politics, capitalism, consumerism, feminism, psychology, and link between mind and body. Debbie is clearly a very intelligent person who draws upon a number of modalities to support her thinking. This is however, delivered in a way that is both accessible and engaging – a perfect combination.

I took so much from the Feel Now Yoga teacher training and I put this down to the well thought out timetable and contents. I certainly do not think I would have achieved the same level of insight and confidence from a shorter teacher training course.

As a psychologist I went into training with a specific agenda of developing tools to enhance my clinical practice but the well roundedness of the course helped me massively in a personal capacity as well as professionally.

I am excited about my continuing yoga journey and would like to thank Debbie and Ross for their input, compassion and valuable feedback which comprises this incredible teacher training course. Thank you! (HH 23/4/20)

Hi debbie. Thank you ever so much for facilitating that course for us. It must not have been easy. Thank you for your capacity for understanding and guidance for healing. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. It has brought me a lot of healing. It’s something I hope to be able to provide for people in the future. (RN 14/12/2020)

Sue’s Yoga Teacher Training Poem (December 2020)

The basis, the principles, that’s where it’s at.

Aiming for shapes? I’m not sure about that.

Slow, smooth, release and oil.

Appropriate support, no need for toil.

Back off, explore, or just let it be.

Don’t collapse and hurt, trying to be free.

Obvious to subtle, muscles big to the small.

Push through your feet, for space, to be tall.

Make your limbs work, to support your spine.

Maintain through the movement and you’ll be fine.

Quality not quantity, ease to breathe.

Let the ribs move, for the lungs underneath.

Neuromuscular pathways we need to improve.

Calm in the system, ready to move.

Ground, lengthen, and broaden what you can.

Sometimes, now-and-then, feel like Wonder Woman :)
